Cathy Fernandes


Cathy Fernandes started her career as an entrepreneur - as founder and managing director of two small enterprises. One in the Occupational Health and Safety industry and the second as a Sales Representation firm with a network of magazines targeting the 18 to 34 demo group.

In 2000, she moved to Rogers Media as Associate Publisher and oversaw the Sales and Custom Publishing/Solutions groups, where she spent 7 years building and restructuring to create a profitable business that contributed 70% of the magazine's EBITDA.

At the beginning of 2007, Cathy moved to Quebecor Media where she progressed from Director of Sales for the digital organization to Vice-President of all digital media for Quebecor Media. She created a sales organization that supported the national sales for the entire company, and created a local online sales organization for over 200+ newspapers. Cathy ended her Quebecor stint as Vice-President of National Sales for all four media properties - Broadcast, Digital, Newspaper and Magazines for the Toronto office, with over $250MM in national revenues, and 150+ staff.

In 2010, she started at a small digital media firm as Vice-President of Sales and GM, for BV! Media and grew the company's sales by 45% nationally, and 300% locally when 9 months later, Rogers Media acquired the firm at 240% of it's stock price –

After the acquisition, Cathy spent some time at home with her boys and went to Harvard University for 7 months for the General Management Program and completed her MBA at Richard Ivey School of Business.

In 2011 Cathy spent one year with Zoom Media as President & COO, where she overhauled the sales proposition to adhere to the evolving Digital Out-of-Home industry and cleaned up Operations in order to grow sales by 15% and triple EBITDA.

In her spare time, she has volunteered for Jimmie Heuga’s Centre for MS as the Executive Director Snow Express for MS from 2006 to 2010 - an event which raised over $300,000 each year to help families living with MS. And lastly, Cathy currently sits on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity Toronto
